B i o g r a p h y

Vancouver-born flutist Thomas Law is an enthusiastic freelancer in the Vancouver and Victoria area. An active and avid chamber musician, Thomas has collaborated with groups of all sizes and instrumentation, performing (and premiering) music ranging from the classical repertoire, contemporary avant-garde, world-jazz fusion and film/video game score genres. Across western B.C., he has freelanced most notably with the Victoria Symphony, Sea to Sky Symphony, West Coast Symphony, Kamloops Symphony, Vancouver Philharmonic, Victoria Bach Ensemble, Victoria Baroque Players, and Victoria Philharmonic Choir. 

As a Soloist, Thomas is a frequent recitalist and has performed concertos with the Victoria Bach Ensemble, Greater Youth Victoria Orchestra and the Victoria Conservatory of Music Young Artist Showcase. Thomas is thankful to have received prizes, awards and scholarships from the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival, B.C. Provincials Festival, Kiwanis Festival (Vancouver), Greater Youth Victoria Orchestra, Victoria Conservatory of Music and Capilano University.

Equally passionate in teaching as he is performing, Thomas works with students ranging from ages 8-60 in his private studio. He currently teaches at the Long and McQuade Lesson Centre in North Vancouver. He has served as instructor at St. James Music Academy, Maple Leaf Music School and Tom Lee Music (Richmond).  He also leads band clinics in the Saanich, Sidney and Vancouver areas. Thomas seeks to inspire students to be independent, inquisitive and joyous learners while equipping them with practical tools to facilitate musical and technical obstacles.

Thomas has a Bachelor of Music from the University of Victoria and  a Certificate in Flute Pedagogy and Literature from the Victoria Conservatory of Music. His primary mentors include: Christie Reside, Mary Byrne, Suzanne Snizek, Brenda Fedoruk and Chieko Louie

 He is currently Pursuing his Masters in Music at the University of British Columbia with Christie Reside.
